According to the latest report, Sony’s PS4 is still considered the best-selling console
Sony Corp.’s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4 (PS4) has beat Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One and Nintendo Co. Ltd.’s (OTCMKST:NTDOY) Wii U multiple times. Sony does not have any first-party exclusives in 2015, while “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” is the only highlight in 2016. On the other hand, Xbox One has numerous titles to be released by the year end.
Despite PS4's fewer exclusive games this year, it is no surprise that it is still the best-selling console of this generation. We have the latest VGChartz data, which shows recent statistics from the console wars, and complete sales data till June 2015.
According to the report, PS4 has gained quite a lead over Xbox One and Wii U, and crossed the 24-million units mark, Xbox One is at an unsurprising 13.25 million units. However, Wii U is still under the 10-million units mark.
The report mentioned that PS4 has outsold Xbox One every month since its launch in 2013. Similarly, Xbox One has outsold Wii U for 12 consecutive months.
Compared on a monthly basis, PS4 outsold Xbox One this month by 524,818 units, and Wii U by 776,413 units. PS4’s total monthly sales are 1,022,428 units, while Xbox One is at the second place with 497,610 units, and Wii U at the third place with 246,015 units.
Hence, VGChartz’s numbers show that PS4 has been the dominant market player since its launch. This success is attributed to its gamer-centric console, good reputation with first-party exclusives, and better third-party content. However, this is also attributed to Microsoft’s bad decision-making with the inclusion of DRM in Xbox One, which was reverted later on.
